eBay's Authenticity Guarantee, for sellers

Eligible items are added automatically and free of charge; there is no opt in or opt out1. eBay lists watches, shoes, apparel, handbags and luxury accessories, trading cards, jewelry and coins as covered categories1.

When an eligible item sells, you send it to the authenticator's address eBay provides. Signature confirmation is required on that shipment for items sold for $750 or more1. If the item cannot be authenticated or is not as described, the buyer is refunded and the item does not go to the buyer1.

Returns go back through the authenticators, who check that the item is in the same condition with its accessories and tags before it returns to you; your stated return policy applies1. For jewelry, eBay says verification is by GIA5.

Why an offer can change after inspection

Bob's Watches says its initial estimate assumes excellent, ready-to-sell condition, and that it deducts only the cost of needed work at its wholesale rates; its example is a $100 crystal replacement deducted as $1004.

Rebag quotes a payout range upfront and says its commission rate stays fixed regardless of the selling price, though rates may be adapted by item2.

Describe wear honestly and include accessories. Fashionphile asks for clear photos of areas prone to wear and of tags or receipts3; a mismatch found at inspection is the usual reason a number moves.

Before you ship anything

  1. Step 1

    Photograph the item

Every side, hardware, interior, serials and accessories, so you have your own record.

  2. Step 2

    Get the quote in writing

Keep the email or account page showing the offer or payout range.

  3. Step 3

    Insure the shipment

Fashionphile and Bob's Watches say their labels are insured34; on a marketplace, insure what you send.

  4. Step 4

    Know the return path

Ask what happens and who pays shipping if you decline a revised offer.

About this page

We do not earn anything from purchases today. Every product link is a plain link to the merchant's own page, without an affiliate code. We may join merchants' affiliate programs in the future, and this notice will say so before that changes.

Fees, commission rates and payout terms belong to each platform and can change. The platform's own page is the final word on fees, payouts and terms.

LuxeResale Guide compares published fee schedules. We do not authenticate, buy or sell items, and we do not vouch for any listing. Net payout figures are our arithmetic on published rates, not quotes.
